MGB Convertible Tops and Convertible Top Parts
MGB roadsters between 1971 and 1980 have the same top frame
and can take the same top !
In 1977 MG introduced the zip down center rear window
to improve air flow when the top is up.
So an original 77-80 top with a zippered rear window
will fit fine on a 71 to 76.
There are many MG roadsters still on the road. Their soft top (the convertible top is a 'hood' to the British) changes slightly among the MGB convertible (roadster) cars produced but each MGB convertible top installation is within the capabilities of the careful do-it-yourselfer. We have a step by step MGB convertible top installation manual to assist you.
MGB Roadster soft top types:
From 1963 to 1970 the MGB roadster was made with two types of
convertible top frames: one was designed to fold up and be stored
while the other MGB convertible top framework was the traditional
fold down type of convertible top frame. And all later MGB roadster
convertible tops were designed per the traditional modern
convertible top fold down frame.
MGB convertible top windows:
Our MGB soft top windows are available with a zip down center rear
window for those who want this kind of ventilation capacity, or
with fully welded in sets of windows. We offer each MGB convertible
top with a choice of convertible rear window type.
MGB Roadster convertible top fabrics:
Almost every aftermarket MGB convertible top now sold is made with
a leather grained convertible top vinyl that is American made. This
mimics the original British Everflex MGB roadster convertible top
vinyl. The American made MBG convertible top vinyl is available in
black, white and tan.
MGB convertible tops fasten with glue and snaps:
Our MGB convertible top installation manual details the procedures
for the MGB convertible top installation. Some manufacturers
pre-install snaps into their MGB convertible tops. Our experience
is that the MGB convertible body studs which receive the
convertible top snaps may vary slightly in location. Transferring
existing snap stud locations from the body to the new convertible
top is a "snap." This makes for a more reliable fit along the base
of the new MGB convertible top. Snap location and installation to
the new convertible top is simple. We do supply snaps and the
process for putting into the new convertible top is detailed in our
manual and easy to do. MGB convertible top installation requires
the coordination of the gluing of the new convertible top to the
front bow and the positioning of the snaps. Based on our experience
with MGB convertible top installation we supply the snaps
separately with our new MGB soft tops for owner installation.
