1961-63 Imperial Convertible Top Motor Pump Rebuild/repair Service   The repair service is usually completed 4 to 5 weeks after we receive your motor pump Details... We can evaluate your existing convertible top motor pump and if its "core" is good we can return it to like new condition. We service the whole motor section of the unit: recoiling, insulating and cleaning. We test the rewound unit to make sure it is in proper working order before returning to you. If you do want your motor rebuilt, simply click that line to add the service to your cart. (You would pay for it just as though you were ordering a part.) We will then send you a prepaid UPS shipping label. Properly box it up (we recommend putting it in a plastic bag as they can leak) and drop it off at a UPS store or the UPS counter in any Staples store. There is an extended wear version of this topping, called "euro-topping." the backing (inner lining) in our eurotopping imperial convertible top is a polyester/cotton blend with a special bonding process (to the outer vinyl layer). The eurotopping imperial top is the longest wearing of all vinyl tops.

The outer face (vinyl grain) in the haartz pinpoint and in the eurotopping are the same.

We also offer the imperial convertible top in (non-original) haartz stayfast canvas. Stayfast canvas, because of its thick center butyl rubber layer has the longest of all wear ratings. The canvas outer skin is luxurious looking. Canvas is slightly more difficult to clean than vinyl.

These tops are made with a rear window section containing a sewn in and zippered plastic rear window.

Hold down cables: a pair of cables, one on each side, is threaded through the side hems of the top. They fasten the sides of the top, front and rear, to the top frame. The spring on each cable provide variable tension as the top is raised and lowered.

The top is patterned exactly like the original. This construction is the classical two part top: main top plus rear window section. The two parts are joined at the rear top bow upon installation.

Owner installation: many owners install their own two part tops. The installation manual offered (see "accessories" below) describes how classic American two part tops are installed. Staples or tacks are required to attach the top to the frame bows. Usually this is done with a compressor driven or electric staple gun. Also some contact cementing of fabric flaps is required. There is no sewing. We cannot offer installation consulting.

Hydraulics:

We now stock hydraulic cylinders, motor-pumps, and hoses for your convertible tops. All are made to OEM specifications. Each can be ordered separately; however, when ordering hydraulic cylinders we recommend replacing both. The chances are that both hydraulic cylinders were manufactured at the same time: if one is on its way out the other may follow. If the top is raised and one hydraulic cylinder is working harder than the other the result over time can lead to a slightly bent convertible top frame. The replacement of both hydraulic cylinders will ensure that the top raises and lowers symmetrically.

Systems for this car take Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and have a 5 year warranty when used with this fluid. Brake fluid should not be used as it voids the warranty. We also offer an installation manual when ordered.

The 12 volt motor-pumps include a mounting bracket with rubber grommets to reduce vibration.

We also offer a rebuilding service for motor-pumps. Not all are repairable, but it is less expensive to have one rebuilt than to buy a new one. The motor-pump would need to be sent to us for evaluation. Hoses come with all new fittings and are made specifically to fit your car.
