What are 'Easy Install' Miata Tops?
Our "Easy Install" Miata tops take the normally 'not too difficult
to put on' tops and make it much easier! We have written a very
detailed illustrated do-it-yourself installation manual to take a
moderately handy person through his or her own installation.
In these tops the design has been modified to facilitate the
installation steps without compromising the integrity and the durability
of the completed top.
We have eliminated the zipper that is used to open the dealer
and dealer replica tops. We have provided a sealed in window
in your choice of plastic or glass. The top can be lowered without the need
to manage a zipper above the window.
In addition we have simplified the attachment of the top at the
rear pillars (the area behind the side windows.)
This design had been extensively field tested, through hundreds
of tops that we have sold over the years. Tweaks,
based on this field experience were incorporated, as with any product. The result
is an economical, easy to install convertible top that will give years of use.
There is no stapling or sewing involved in the installation of this top.
Some contact cement work is required. Bolts must be installed, a couple of screws
and also either aluminum pop rivets or sheet metal screws at the rear pillars.
Velcro attachment in selected areas further simplifies matters.
New cables must be riveted in place with a pair of aluminum pop rivets.
Our manual even has a tutorial on applying pop rivets.
All steps are covered in the profusely illustrated installation manual.
We strongly recommend using a pair of new hold down cables
with stainless steel end plates. These replace the old plastic tab plates.
We offer a package special which includes the top, a pair of cables,
a half pint of trimmer contact cement and the installation manual.
These tops are available in all original Miata vinyls.
What About the Rain Rail?
The rain rail is the trough that guides water that drips down at the rear
away from the car. The rain rail is not visible after installation.
Mazda over designed its original rain rails. They can be
removed from the old top and re-used if not cracked.
There is no reason to rivet the rain rail to the top; this was done
at the Miata plants to facilitate shipping only. Chances are
you can remove and re-use your original rain rail.
We offer a sturdy replacement which is listed under "accessories."
We also offer an "Economy Rain Rail", a practical, less expensive, subsitute.
It is made of thinner vinyl than the original and its base line has a reinforcement plastic strip.
It should function well for about two tops.
Its use is described in the installation manual.

Just a quick note saying "thanks" for a great product. I received my Miata top earlier this week
and installed it today. Took me about 7 hours but I've got a super looking top that fits like a glove.
Your instructions are not only very accurate, but supportive in the little details
like keeping hands clean with a light colored top (mine is tan) and using the fork for the clips.
I was able to reuse every clip I removed. The construction and material look to be very durable.

I wanted to let you know just how impressed I was with your product and
service. I recently bought and installed a new top for my '97 Miata. I
was all set to go with a brand from Miata site I order from a lot but then
I found your site and you were about $100 less and then saved me more
money with the side cables and economy rain rail. Given the savings, I
thought I would give you a try. I ordered on-line and received my top the
next day! (of coures I live in CT). The installation went well, no issues
with fit and the directions were very helpful (if you take the time to
read them in advance) and using the fork as a button removal tool was key.
The whole thing took about 4 hours and it looks great. Thanks for a great product!
